Wow! So impressive! Moscow really knows how to put on a show! I am SO glad we attended the Spasskaya Tower 8th International Military Tattoo! We had fantastic seats (thank you Rob Wright) looking directly at St. Basil's Cathedral - truly incredible! I didn't know that they could change the colouring of the cathedral in so many ways!
The performances take place from September 5 - 13, 2015 on Red Square. The best Russian and foreign military bands, folk groups, as well as honorary guard units of the heads of states take part in the event. At the end of each performance, the joint band of all the participants (about 1500 musicians) appear on Red Square. As with previous years, the event is timed to coincided with Moscow City Day (this year Moscow turns 868 years old).
Participants include: Belarus, Belgium (Royal Stiltwalkers - I LOVED them), United Kingdom, Greece, Ireland (bag pipes and drums), Spain (equestrian team that we didn't see), Italy (Police band), Kazakhstan, China (they were impressive), Mexico, Pakistan, Slovenia, Japan (lanterns - very cool) and, of course, Russia (The President's Band and several other bands).
I will let the pictures speak for themselves......they're a bit out of order, but still.
