We decided to go have an up-close look at the Moscow State University because it is a VERY impressive building. It was established in 1755. More than 40,000 students study at this university as well as over 4000 international students every year from all over the world. It must be an incredibly overwhelming university to attend because there is over 1,000,000 square meters floor area in 1000 buildings and structures and there are 8 dormitories housing over 12,000 students.
The university is one of the Seven Sisters buildings - a group of seven skyscrapers in Moscow designed in Stalinist style. Locals just call these buildings "Stalin's high rises". The buildings themselves were built in 1947 - 1953. Below is a picture I borrowed from the internet - an overview of the area.
