Christmas 2016 in Moscow

Christmas in Moscow - 2016

The metro - at 6 pm on a weekday!

We finally made it to White Rabbit - ranked #18 in the WORLD! I'm not sure about that, but the atmosphere was definitely great. I need to go back in the evening though - the lighting would be gorgeous. We went with our US friends Tim & Elisa and their daughter. We neglected to get a picture of all of us though!
Cute!

Love, love, love the decor

Craig... before the bill (lol) and before Tim & Elisa arrived

The $30 bread basket - you've got to be kidding me!
The very unique butter holder - looks kind of like chocolate... or something worse

A free pre-dinner snack - turnip I believe it was

Craig... after the bill (lol)

Japanese dinner - November 30, 2016

Japanese dinner:
I am most grateful for the unique opportunities we have while living here in Moscow. One of my favorite things is being invited to dinner in the homes of our attache friends.
It is such a pleasure to be able to experience food and culture from around the world and to meet all these wonderful people!

Our gracious hosts: Kazuya & Shinobu are a wonderful couple who treated us so warmly to the hospitality in their home. We were joined by Ilknur and Murat from Turkey and Sybren from the Netherlands. His lovely wife Ria was unable to join us because she was back home awaiting the arrival of their first grandchild!

Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of the wonderful food we were served, but it was plentiful and impressive.

1st course:
Salad with wasabi dressing (yes, I cried)
Pumpkin
Boiled horseradish (thankfully, no longer spicy after boiled)

2nd course:
Deep fried shrimp
3 different flavors of chicken
carrot

3rd course:
Fish soup (not my favorite)
Chicken and mushroom rice
Chopped Japanese greens
Pickled radish (tasted like a pickle)

Dessert:
They called it "pudding", but it was a gelatin-ized  custard type consistency with a caramel sauce on top and accompanied by strawberry, raspberry and grapes.
The beautiful wedding kimono they allowed us to try on.

After dinner we went back into the den for more drinks and then we found each others homes in our respective countries on google earth. That was interesting to see!
As a parting gift they gave us a gift bag with the little cedar boxes we drank saki out of, the chopsticks, our name tags with the origami Santa and reindeer, a pen and a small towel.

Moscow Light Festival & Optical Illusion photos

Moscow Light Festival & Optical Illusion photos!

Circle of Light festival - 2016

We dragged our good buddies (left to right) Jack, Shirly, Francine, (me), & Alain out to see the light show (Craig's taking the picture)

They can do so much with light. We didn't find it AS good as last year, but still good. Maybe next year we will go to the University where they also have a huge fireworks show after.

A bit blurry, but all of us (minus Craig, the cameraman) by our Moscow sign - which is now gone

 Illusion Gallery - "Eyebirint"
4th floor of Children's World Mall @ Lubyanka metro station (Moscow)

After a lovely Sunday brunch at our place with our good Swedish friends, Jan & Lilijana, we took the metro to try and find this illusion gallery. Cecilia posted pictures on Faceboook and I wanted to go try it myself. It was a lot of fun acting like a kid again!
This is a huge tree inside
"Детский мир" (Children's World). I thought it was just a toy store, but it's so much more!

View of same tree and part of the mall - beautiful!
Craig thought this was hilarious - we thought it was a little creepy posing with the little girls! lol This is the Lego area.

That'd be nice if those 5000R bills were real!

I happened to wear the right colours for this photo shoot! :)

Good acting!

Totally cheese!

That mustache is gone as of December 1st, thank goodness!

I should have just shown my head - maybe next time.

Good one Lilli!
Ahh, my pet tiger.
Climbing the stairway to heaven? I'm not sure what I"m doing with my right hand??

It's not a surfboard Craig! lol

He didn't want to pose for this picture, but I made him!
The lady who worked there took this picture - it's more realistic here and colours are more intense. Next time I will sit to one side so as not to block St. Basil's so much!

I always wanted to be a ballerina!
Again, the employee took this photo - no charge to do so, but then at the end she tries to sell you photos on a magnet - which we did buy - 350R each.

I wish someone had guided my hands to a more correct position!
Lovely darling! You're wearing the right clothes for this photo!
My handsome ballerina
Ahhh, I'm falling! This building is one of the 7-sisters buildings around town.

This one is so cool! We switched, but the difference wasn't as significant
With Shirly:
